How I Draw: Eyes

        I pride myself over the realism of the eyes I draw. Here is how I do it:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Outline
        Before coloring, erase the outlines of the eye enough so that you can see the basic shape, but the graphite won't mix.
        I always fill in the pupil first. Simply color in the dot solid black. Any highlights overlapping the pupil should be stark white.
        Coloring the iris depends on the color. For example, a brown iris should be outlined a very dark brown, and the top third should be that same brown.
        In the middle third, slowly decrease the pressure while coloring down until you have a smooth transition from solid color to scraggly remnants. You should end with a color so light it blends in with the white.
        The bottom third should be the second or third darkest brown. Pick a shade and repeat the steps used for the top, only going up instead of down. The middle third should now be overlapped by two shades of brown.
        Taking a colorless blender, spread the pigment until you have that smooth color in and iris. If you wish, take white and draw lines around the pupil, but don't press to hard. Use the white for additional highlights on the iris. I chose not to do the highlights. *This technique can be done with any iris color.*
        Now that our iris is full of life, let's move on the the whites of the eye. To begin, lightly outline the shape of the eye, not including the iris, with black.
        Even more lightly, color in the corners of the eye with the black, along with the inner edge. Then, fill with white. If the black is properly placed, the the eye "white" should be in fact an off-white.
        Next, the little inner corner. For this, grab a blush pink and crimson red. Fill in with blush pink first, then outline the top part with the red.
        Blend with the colorless blender.
        And finally, the eyelashes! If you take a look ant the outline up top, you will see a shape marked out for the eye lash. Fill in that shape.
        Make lines coming out of the eyelash shape to show the actual lashes. Make a series of short lines or one line following the under side of the eye. Make small lashes coming out from it.
        And we're done! We went from this:
To this:
This technique is basically foolproof! One component complete!
